Heavy metal / Toxic element removal – these displace nutritional metals which means that important minerals like Iron, Iodine have impaired absorption. Toxic metals also increase the need for some vitamins. Hormone disruption, cellular metabolism, inflammation and oxidative stress can result if exposure continues.
Chemicals added to kill bacteria in water also negatively impacts gut bacteria. Recent research highlights why the gut microbiome is so important (for detoxification, weight maintenance, immune health).

Flavour enhancers, artificial colours and flavours and some artificial sugars that are banned from infant foods are prominent in adult foods. Should any food be able to contain potentially toxic ingredients? Sticking to unprocessed foods as often as possible allows us to avoid some of the chemical load we are exposed to.
Cosmetics, soaps and bathroom products also contain ingredients with questionable origins. Are they harmful or helpful?
